Convert fuel economy between litres per 100 kilometres, kilometres per litre and miles per gallon. Fuel economy runs in opposite directions depending on the unit: a lower L/100 km is better, while a higher km/L or mpg is better.
US and UK miles per gallon
A UK (imperial) gallon is about 20% bigger than a US gallon, so the same car has a higher mpg figure in the UK. For example, 8 L/100 km is about 29.4 mpg (US) or 35.3 mpg (UK). Always check which gallon a quoted figure uses.
